EVERYTHING WE NEED IS ALREADY HERE

The Practice of Meditation

meditationweb.jpg

What meditation does over time is it shifts our perception from the conceptual to a deeper perception of reality. What we are doing is training the mind to live fully in the present. The average human mind is in a state of constant distraction and cannot experience reality because it is scattered and confused. By learning to live in the moment we focus the mind and thus experience its hidden depths of wisdom and compassion. These qualities are always present but cannot be accessed without stilling the mind. Mindfulness is the ground for inner tranquillity. When the mind becomes tranquil it automatically becomes clearer - like still water when the sediment settles. This leads to direct perception about what the mind is doing and how it is doing it. By observing what arises, we create conditions for inner healing, growth, and ultimately direct experience of our true nature. -As Gavin Harrison says, "It is a powerful time in the lifespan of any of us when we go beneath what is superficial and comfortable and question the deeper currents of our life. There is perhaps a yearning to find a meaning that transcends the vicissitudes of living and endures in spite of the ups and downs that come along for all of us. This is the beginning of a journey of great dignity and courage. Upon this journey, each of us may be likened to an exquisite flower bud in the process of opening to the truth of who we are. If the circumstances of our lives nurture and nourish what is true, we must open into our fullest loveliness. Meditation practice is a tool for bringing us closer to the deepest truths of who we are." See our Scheduled Retreats page for upcoming Meditation Retreats.
